Become a Docent
Our Docent Program is a great way to enjoy the parks while giving something back to the community. The look on the faces of small children as they discover the magic of wildflowers or spot a lizard scurrying across the trail is a delight. You provide the enthusiasm, the kids provide the purpose and excitement, and we provide the training.
We make sure that you are well-prepared to answer most, if not all, the children's questions. Each docent completes four hours of training with educational materials created by the Palo Alto-based Environmental Volunteers. The program ensures the walks are modeled on a state-mandated environmental educational cirriculum and that docents are knowledgeable about local flora and fauna.
In addition to the initial training, we encourage you to participate in various enrichment programs such as guest talks by local specialists and to include that special affinity you have for a particular topic such as native American folklore or geology.
