We have a pledge of $500,000 in in-kind donations from the County of San Mateo.

Status of Renovation
April, 2009

Renovation on the Folger Stable began on December 1st with the fencing and subsequent fumigation of the main stable building. Demolition permits, expected soon, will enable the contractor to begin the preliminary work to expose the critical "bones" of the building and begin needed seismic and repair work.

The renovation is being guided by a Construction Steering Committee, chaired by Rob Flint (with contractor Bill Stronck, Architect Adolph Rosekrans, Parks and Recreation Director Dave Holland, Jill Daly, Joe Geist, Susan Lang, Suzanne Muller, and Bill Wraith). After hours of investigation, Bill Stronck has completed a "Building Condition and Assessment Report" with well over a hundred photographs. Each photo shows a specific detail of the stable evaluated according to current condition and construction recommendations. A copy of this report is in the Friends' office and we invite you to have a look at it.

Project manager Scott Pinson reports that they are completing the demolition work on the upper floor of the Stable while the work on the main level continues. They are doing the "rough-in" work for the fire detection, electrical and plumbing systems as well as replacing the wall framing upstairs, repairing the existing joists, and reframing one of the skylights. The demo of the roof membrane will begin as early as the week of April 27th (a week ahead of schedule). Scott has been working with Woodside Fire to insure the adequacy of the water system which will involve an additional pump to increase the available pressure. We are looking at various options for "paving" in the courtyard of the Stable, including permeable asphalt and pavers.

For additional information about the renovation, please call Joe Geist at the Friends' office at 650-851-2660

Past Accomplishments

The Friends gave new life to the Stable's Carriage House by patching the roof, fixing the stairs, and installing a propane heating system. Community donations enabled the Friends to make emergency repairs to the 100 year old main stable building. The Folger Estate Stable Committee raised the funds for the feasibility study.

In 2003, the Folger Estate Stable Committee funded the application for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The application was approved in 2004.

In 2005, the Friends created a Campaign Committee to launch its major development campaign and negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding with the County so the project could move forward.

In 2006-2007, the Friends' Folger Stable Campaign Committee raised $3.3 million, $3 million of which will go directly toward the renovation.
