The Friends has been involved in numerous projects over the years from Park maintenance to educational programs.
Current Projects
Folger Stable Renovation: One of the most significant programs led by the Friends and the Folger Estate Stable Committee has been the massive renovation of the historic Folger Stable, located in Wunderlich Park. For many years, the Stable was slowly deteriorating, with no public funds available to preserve the main building and surrounding Carriage House, Blacksmith Barn, Dairy House, and stone walls.
In 2006, the Friends began a private fundraising effort for Stable renovation, including raising an endowment fund for maintenance and programs, and additional funding for other on-site improvements. See More
Past Accomplishments
Below are just a few of the many projects the Friends have been involved in since 2001. Your support either financially or by volunteering assures that Huddart and Wunderlich Parks remain beautiful, safe and accessible for everyone.
- New Bridge at Wunderlich: In 2005, the Friends donated $18,000 towards the much needed bridge repair at the entrance to Wunderlich Park.
- Invasive plant eradication: Friends volunteers have worked to eradicate invasive plants such as thistle, broom, and ivy that threaten the delicate ecosystem in the parks.
- Trail Maintenance: Maintained and repaired trails in the parks, including the Bay Tree, Campground, Chaparral, Chickadee, Chinquapin, Crystal Springs, Dean, Kings Mountain, Meadow, and Redwood Trails.
- Education: Authored and published brochures on Volunteer Opportunities in the Parks, the Peninsula AIDS Memorial Grove located in Huddart Park, and a Trail Guide for Wunderlich Park.
